What's a "Face Level Athlete"?

To answer that question, we first need to define "face level sports".

FACE LEVEL SPORTS
definition:
"forward motion, headfirst & horizontal to gravity"

Now that we've got that figured out, what are some sports that fit the definition?

Whitewater Riverboarding (aka Hydrospeed or Sledge)
Snow Bodyboarding (aka Airboarding)
Ocean Bodyboarding (aka Boogieboarding)
Ocean Bodysurfing
Wingsuit Flying and Tracking
Skeleton (the Olympic sport)

Adrenaline Junkies

Of course, like most of the guys on Team FLI, the majority of face level sports athletes start out doing other sports, or may continue to do them. Most of the guys on Team FLI played high school or college football (Levi still plays college ball). Alex is also a windsurfer and kayaker (and a professional jazz musician). Docta P runs a summer wakeboarding promotion in his hometown each year. Ice is really good at bowling.

Ok, just kidding on that last one. Hopefully I won't get fired for that joke - he hates bowling. He's more of a croquet kind of guy. (You suspected that about him, huh.)

Anyway the point is that face level sports athletes bring a wide array of skills and backgrounds to their chosen sport(s), and many of the life lessons learned from a young age in traditional team sports are useful in these adrenaline sports as well - mental toughness, discipline, fundamentals, endurance, teamwork, etc.

But there are no other sports in the world like face level sports. Only at face level do you truly experience the thrill of what it must be like to be Superman (and if you're a Wingsuit Flyer, you feel it literally!).

At face level, the perspective is like nothing else on earth. Everything around you is bigger, moves faster, feels more intense.

And then there is the aspect of nature - in a traditional sport, such as basketball, you're not concerned about the floor throwing you into a wall, or the basket reaching down and wrapping its nylon fingers around your neck.

But gravity, and the ocean, and whitewater rivers...those are playing surfaces of another realm. Suddenly the mental toughness factors are not simply overcoming an opponent's intimidation, or calming the jitters because of a sold-out stadium...many times, hitting a good line (or not), escaping the clutches of a massive wave (or not), or keeping a clear head flying down a cliff at 100mph (or, uh, not) can mean the difference between a severe beatdown, or even worse, death.

That's heavy. But it's also a challenge, and is the fine line that many extreme athletes walk between risk and reward (and the reason many extreme athletes have a different perspective on things like job interviews, stress, ex girlfriends, etc. Well, ok, even extreme athletes get annoyed by ex girlfriends. Nevermind). To stretch the limits of what is possible, man versus nature, man one-upping man, man versus self.

There are tons of extreme sports to choose from these days, and our athletes enjoy many of them, in all their various forms. Perhaps you do too. But there's something uniquely special about the combination of the face level perspective and the human / gravity / h2o powered experience that we just can't live without.

Maybe you're one of us, or maybe you're just curious - wherever you stand, take the chance, get horizontal! We'll be happy to assist you in any way possible.

We are Face Level Industries, and these are our sports. We're dedicated to bringing you Adrenaline At Face Level™.
