This is a you tube of the Animas River Kayak Park in Durango Colorado. Shot 5-19-08 river running 4350 cfs. I am on a Carlson, which I like but wish was 8 inches longer. If you watch the water behind the red raft as it hits the kayak you can see the raft's oarsman bob by and disappear. At the end of my run I am holding up one fin to gain altitude to make the exit. that is working well as I can tilt the board a bunch to get higher on the wave but still be in control. If I lift both fins It gets very bouncy right away.

Today the Animas came up another 100 cfs to 5400.

Here is another view of the hole on our town run. The video was taken when the flow was 5-6000 cfs. Just past the pile the wave is smooth but breaking, so the ride alternates from smooth carving to a slamming down that threatens a tip dive. The only way to know you are about to get run down by a raft is to keep an eye on the spectators. There is a bike path next to the river, the hole is easy on easy off, and swimming is rare.
