INNOVATION

Airboards were invented in Switzerland. Inventor Joe Steiner borrowed directional control concepts from snowboarding and riding style from ocean bodyboarding when he began development of the Airboard Classic in 1990.

Grounded for two years after a snowboard accident, Joe yearned to "sled" the same Swiss alpine slopes he used to snowboard. After ten years of experimentation, Joe introduced the world's first snow bodyboard and redefined sledding.

AIRBOARD CLASSIC 130
The Classic is the original Airboard design. Shaped for speed and maneuverability, this Airboard will have you hauling down the mountain at high speeds as soon as you're off the lift. The 130 is the "sports car" of the Airboard lineup.
FEATURES
Tapered Shape
The tapered aerodynamic shape is quick edge to edge for tight turns.
Profile Runners
Three sets of low profile runners track the full length of the board, providing stability at speed and turning and stopping.
C-Tec Fabric
Extremely durable, reinforced, non-stretch, coated fabric creates a stable high performing chassis. This is no squishy innertube!
I-Beam RF Welds
Patented feature puts the "board" in Airboard. The stable chassis is what allows your weight shifts to control speed and direction
Pneumatic Design
Sturdy air-chamber provides built-in shock absorption for bumpy snow and softer landings.

AIRBOARD FREERIDE 180
The Freeride is a larger board more suited for powder and huge aerial tricks in deep snow. It's a bit wider and rounder up front, as well as being thicker. If the 130 is the Porsche in the Airboard garage, this is your Hummer H2.
FEATURES
Wide Chassis
Wide board is great for cruising and comfort in the deep and steep.
Raised Nose
Raised nose clears snow and cradles the rider.
Powder Profile Runners
Powder runners track higher on the sides for increased turning traction .
Grommets
Rigging grommets provide tie-down points for gear and safety harnessing in the backcountry.

HOW DO THEY WORK?
Unlike tubes or toboggans, Airboards can actually carve turns! By shifting your weight and pushing against the side handles, you can even come to a complete sliding stop quickly. The molded runners on the bottom (see below for detail view) curve, which assists in turning the board. You don't have to turn it, once you learn how to shift your bodyweight and "drive" it, the board turns itself. And the faster you go, the better control it has!
Airboards are the best snow bodyboard made and are great for cruising your favorite hill, getting back down the mountain after a backcountry snowshoe trek, or catching air and racing your friends at a ski resort - these boards have revolutionary performance that turns sledding into an extreme sport!

Highlights

Inflatables

There are a number of companies offering some sort of "inflatable river board" this year, which we at Face Level find slightly disconcerting. We're not huge fans of inflatables, and never have been. But to be fair, we put them all to the test, and were pleasantly surprised that they are getting better in quality and performance.

We still do not recommend taking them in anything other than Class II or maybe Class III (if it's a run you're familiar with), but they do have their advantages. We reviewed them all and filmed the demonstration for you to see for yourself.
