My dad and I checked out a bodyboard-specific shop in Dana Point, CA a couple weeks ago for some board-design inspiration (www.alternativesurf.com). After talking to the owner for a while about bodyboarding and riverboarding, he mentioned that during extreme tides, they will dig a trench and release all the built up water in Aliso Creek, then surf the standing wave (90% salt water, 10% creek/sewage water). So I searched it up on google, and here it is:
It's in Orange County, just south of Laguna Beach, about 35 miles from my house, so I will have to check it out next time on a full moon/extreme tide for sure. Has to be one of the best trains of standing waves I've ever seen. Also, there is this other place in San Diego called The Wave House that I want to check out sometime this summer. It's an artificial wave created by pumping water up onto a wall.
Looks like the wipeouts could potentially be REALLY painful. I'd love to ride my Kern Riverboard on it. Add as favourites (0)
