Last weekend I took four friends out to the gutter for some riverboarding; none of them had ever been on whitewater. Gregg, Kendra, Nichole, and Mark ranging in age from 12 to 36 were excited to get out and give it a try. We met out my house got them fitted and were off.
After a slight detour to rent some gear we arrived at the gutter in Horseshoe bend. We only had enough gear to get 3 in at time including myself so we needed to take turns in the water. The flow was at 5500 cfs which washes out the bottom surf wave (which is the easiest for beginners). I could tell that once they saw the water they were excited to get in. Mark quiclky suited up and entered the water followed by Gregg. They spent a little bit of time getting a feel for the water and the boards and soon were wanting to get into some of the bigger waves. So off we went first Gregg and than Mark. Each spent some time swimming after falling off the board but neither was deterred and kept having fun.
Next Kendra and Nichole got in the water and had a similar experience. All indicated they would love to go again.
