This summer Ice visited Norway and Sweden, and while he didn't get to
meet all of the riverboarding guides in person, he did get to meet
several of the company owners and was in contact with the rest.
Of his time in Scandinavia, Ice says, "It's possibly the most
astounding place I have ever been to - I think New Zealand is
incredible, but nothing could have prepared me for the whitewater in
Norway especially. I have never seen anything like it, and it's just everywhere!"
Which might partially explain the rise in commercial outfitters
offering guided riverboarding trips. The following is a list of guides
and links to their websites - most everyone speaks English, so if you
don't speak Norwegian or Swedish (which are very similar languages)
then don't worry!
The best time to go is July and August, so start planning now for
summer 2008 and take the extreme whitewater trip of a lifetime! We
asked Ice, do you think you'll be back?
"Do I think I'll be back?! I'm going to go live there every August
now I think! There's no water in North America then, really, and other
than Gore Canyon there's nothing running late summer than could even
compare to Scandinavian whitewater - it's that good."
So do yourself a favor and check out the links below, then start
dreaming of 2,000 foot high (700m) waterfalls and more epic whitewater
than you've ever seen in one place...
