What's a Face Level School?

It's a place where you can learn to riverboard or airboard, depending on the time of year and location. While there is plenty of instruction and educational materials on FaceLevel.com, even our How2 manual is no substitute for actually getting out on the water or snow and learning the skills by doing them.

Where can I go?

Currently we offer training in California (near Sacramento) in partnership with Bob Carlson and Beyond Limits rafting company, and we also offer private instructional trips from our headquarters in Portland Oregon. We will be adding instructional trips on the East Coast this coming winter and for next season.

We also offer swiftwater rescue instruction in partnership with American Rescue. They are based near Seattle, Washington, but they are available to travel in order to facilitate your group with the best in rescue training.

Who are the instructors?

Some of the best in the business - Bob Carlson (the "father" of modern riverboarding) and FLI Team Rider Max (B) in California, Kevin Yount in North Carolina, Ice & Docta P in Oregon.

You can also take guided trips and learn from others on the FLI Team, including Alex Koutzoukis in Southern California, Levi Gallas in Colorado, and Kevin Ryan in Boise.

How does it work?

It's quite simple - first you'll go through the basic fundamentals (which are similar for both riverboarding and airboarding), then you'll jump in the river or head down the mountain with your guides and learn to apply those fundamentals!

What will I learn?

You'll learn everything you need to know to safely and confidently control your board and navigate through the rapids or down the mountain.

Riverboarding - reading whitewater, balance, steering & propulsion with your fins, recovery, basic river safety, punching through holes, and of course you'll learn how to surf waves!

Airboarding - turning at high speeds, stopping quickly, balance, braking, avoiding bad skiiers, and if you get all that quickly, you might get to launch off a jump!

What's it cost?

Costs vary from place to place depending on the size of your group and the activity. Contact your local instructor for more details.
