Docta P at the US Olympic Skeleton Tryouts

April 16, 2008

Face Level's own Docta P got an invite for the US Olympic Skeleton tryouts, and he's in Lake Placid, NY, going headfirst down the bobsled track at 70+ mph!

Here's a few updates he's been texting and emailing when he's had some time away from the track (or sleep):

Yesterday was rough, since my shoulders were too broad for the sled I was on, and thus, *I* ended up being the bumpers instead of the metal on the sled. got some nice compression bruises at around 75 km/h.

... Today they found an "xl" sled for me (I'm the biggest of the 14 skeleton riders, but smaller than all of the bobsled guys...and a lot of other really good athletes are trying out for the teams.

...today we moved up to start 3, which increased the speeds to around 95 km/h. it's intense. no other way to put it. when you bump the wall at that speed, you know it's there. just about everyone (except the girls) was REALLY beat up after today. I actually felt better at the end of today than yesterday, since my sled fit my body better - at least it's wider. it's still too short, so I've had some nice whiplash, but better than yesterday.

tomorrow morning we're moving up to start 1, between 105 and 110 km. will let you know how it goes ;).

I will say this - it makes airboarding feel really, really, slow. the track is over a mile long, and we're doing it in around a minute...this is right on the edge of control.

...I came off the sled this morning on curve 10 at around 70mph. Pretty common I guess. Several of us did that. Got right back on- like riverboarding through a hydraulic in super fast motion...will update more tonight. ;)

Not Docta P, but we hopefully will have some pics of him soon. No word yet on if he's allowed to crank up the GoPro. ;-)

Hey Docta P,

That's so awesome man, were really proud of you.

I checked out the video's and I can't believe the speeds you are moving at. Wow!

I'm rooting for you all the way to the Olympics.
