| Merrell / Zanfell Adventure finishes 2nd, DART-nuun in 4th |
|
The other two teams that Face Level sponsored for the riverboarding section finished overall in the top 4, with Merrell pushing all alone for second and nuun coming in 4th. DART-nuun actually crossed the finish line in 3rd, but Team Bones had picked up some time bonus in the orienteering section of the course and ended up stealing the 3rd podium spot.
Merrell's Robyn Benincasa did not enjoy the whitewater, but she made it through ok, and the rest of team Merrell was pretty strong on the water - any team that features paddling legend John Jacoby is probably going to do alright. We were told by her support crew that she's had some bad experiences in whitewater in the past and really doesn't like it. It probably didn't help that she had a boat and a camera in her face almost the entire riverboarding section either...
DART-nuun, who had trained with members of Team FLI and felt confident going in, had some struggles on the riverboarding section, with one of the team members getting stuck in a hole and losing their board. Unfortunately the riverboarding did not turn out to be as fun for them as they'd anticipated, and it took them quite a bit longer to complete the section as well. But they are a great team and they soldiered on and finished 4th.
We're very proud of these Merrell and nuun, as well as Nike, and want to say a hearty "congratulations!" to the men and women who pounded out 548 miles of epic terrain to take 3 out of the top 4 finishing spots! Way to go teams! You've made Face Level proud to be part of your success.
