From the raging rivers of Primal Quest to the...low-water rivers of France? Apparently so.
Last week's MXR Saab Salomon MOUNTAIN X-Race in France was too low for hydrospeed, so the racers used some funky inflatable canoe things instead that looked like Wal*Mar versions of a Norse warship! They also led to racers swimming anyway. See the link below for Mike Bitton's coverage of the race and plenty of French canoe carnage.
It's a bummer that they were not able to do the hydrospeed section. Last year's race had hydrospeed as one of the race disciplines, and the race provides its own custom inflatable hydrospeeds, which are basically 3/4 raft tubes that fit a person, with little handles inside!
Mike Kloser reported to us about last year's race that the inflatable hydrospeeds punched through holes ok and seemed pretty stable on the water. You can see pics of last year's racers and the funky inflatable Mountain X hydrospeeds below.
Thanks to our man Mike Bitton for the inside scoop! Mike's over in France covering the race for Checkpoint Zero.
