FACE LEVEL × LEKKER KAYAKS ⟋ PROJECT: 2027 PRODUCTION RUN
LEKKER TANA
DESIGNED BY CELLIERS KRUGER LEKKER PETREL ⟋ PRODUCT OF THE YEAR ⟋ 2026 PADDLE SPORTS SHOW
⌁ TRANSMISSION ⟋ FROM THE FOUNDER
The Tana exists, the mold is ready, but it's not being produced yet — because it needs you to step up and say “Yes I want one!”
I'm seeing comments online from people who are looking for a great riverboard and lamenting the lack of options, but if you like downriver and creeking, this should be your go-to riverboard! So I've decided to jump back in to personally assist with getting this built for next season. If we can get a commitment for 30 boards, the Tana goes into production for the 2027 whitewater season.

BUILT BY RIVERBOARDERS
DESIGNED BY CELLIERS KRUGER ⟋ WITH CHARL VAN RENSBURG · JOSH GALT · ASAF ARAD
To understand the Tana, start with its predecessor. In 2011, Celliers Kruger, the mechanical engineer behind Fluid Kayaks and Vagabond Kayaks (building whitewater gear since 1997), created the Anvil with Charl van Rensburg. Deliberately utilitarian, built for everyone from beginners to chargers, it became the best-selling riverboard in the world.
Then came a decade of constructive criticism from the people who pushed it hardest. Celliers rounded up a team of riders who'd spent years customizing their Anvils to their liking (Charl van Rensburg, Josh Galt and Asaf Arad) and started over. A long series of design iterations later, the Tana keeps everything that made the Anvil great and fixes everything that held it back. Many of those years-in-the-making rider customizations are molded straight into the hull.
Fifteen years after the Anvil, the same hand drew the Lekker Petrel, which took Product of the Year at the 2026 Paddle Sports Show in Strasbourg — Europe's largest paddlesports show. The Tana is what that designer does when he points it at whitewater.
- WIDER COCKPIT, TIGHTER HIPS ⟋ MOVE FREE, STAY LOCKED IN
- SCULPTED SIDEWALLS + SHAPED ARM GROOVES ⟋ FREE HAND-PADDLING
- ERGONOMIC PISTOL-GRIP HANDLES ⟋ POINT AND SHOOT
- REDESIGNED PLANING HULL + SOFT RAILS ⟋ TURN ON A DIME
- REFINED NOSE + BUOYANT HULL ⟋ PUNCHES THROUGH HOLES
“The best way to describe the leap in performance of the Tana, compared to the Anvil, is a supercar versus a regular car. You can run a river with both — but there is a difference between driving and steering. The Tana puts you in the driving seat, firmly behind the wheel.”

WHAT CHANGED
BOTH HULLS SUPERIMPOSED ⟋ CAD FROM THE DESIGN PROCESS
HOW IT RUNS
- Faster
- A narrower, longer hull.
- Pierces waves, and stays controllable doing it
- A sharper, more defined bow — with more volume behind it. It cuts through what it can and rides over what it can't.
- Just as stable, despite being narrower
- A better hull shape does the work the extra width used to.
HOW IT FITS
- Wider at the cockpit, tighter at the hips
- Room where you move, grip where you don't — the hip area is slightly narrower to hold you in.
- Nothing pushing on your chest
- The Anvil's bump on the central console is gone, and the whole console area is smoothed out — so sliding forward or back is easy.
- Room to swim your arms
- Sidewalls kept low through the middle section, so you can lie on the board and hand-paddle freely.
- Something to hold when you're surfing
- Indents either side of the console, for when you want to be further back.

THE NEXT EVOLUTION OF WHITEWATER AT FACE LEVEL
Designed over the past decade by Celliers and three of the world's most experienced whitewater riverboarding veterans — the same guys who'd brought the world the Fluid Anvil. They set out to reimagine the riverboard: faster, more capable, and more maneuverable than any hydrospeed design currently on the water.
